Siriusmo is from Berlin, and to many, he is a legend. People have been begging him to play out for years, but he has always declined gracefully. He has released a handful of EPs over the years, including Diskoding, Allthegirls, Minirock, and the Sirius EP, all that have been played by the top DJs in the world. His signature blend of future funk, techno, electro, disco and house has driven him to the forefront of electronic production. He works regularly with Modeselektor, either through collaboration or remixing.

After having said he would not DJ or perform live, due to conflicting interests, he finally gave in when he performed his first live mix on a radio show in 2010. Come support him for his first California show!

24-year-old weirdo performance artist Travis Egedy, a.k.a. Pictureplane, obsesses over the cosmos, 90s house music, collective consciousness, and mind-altering chemicals you’ve never heard of. Much like his interests, Pictureplane’s music is strange and boundless and totally righteous.

Having cut his teeth on raging tours with HEALTH, a collab with Beirut’s Zach Condon and killer remixes for Crystal Castles, HEALTH, and Thieves Like Us, Pictureplane delivers his first full-length for Lovepump, Dark Rift.

Grimy synths, broken beats, and bucolic vocals collide somewhere between early 90s house music and the gnarly soundscapes of Black Dice to forge a sound that’s wholly unique and endlessly exciting. It’s exceedlingly rare to find dance music that transcends the cold and robotic, but on Dark Rift Pictureplane does just that: churning out intricate electronic jams out of his near-legendary Denver warehouse space Rhinoceropolis. The music feels at once personal and cosmically expansive.

In Pictureplane’s own words: “once every 26,000 years our planet crosses through the elliptical plane at the center of our galaxy known as the dark rift. The songs on dark rift lyrically deal with humanity entering a new age or next phase of our existence…” The dance-floor and universe await…Pictureplane, your move!

In performance, Javelin will use colorfully painted boomboxes that form large speaker totems (“boombaatas”) which can hang from the ceiling or stack up on the floor like pyramids. The signal from the show is broadcast via FM transmitter, thereby fostering audience participation (B.Y.O.Boombox) or fueling battery-powered, mobile parties.

The duo has played venues as diverse as the children’s branch of the Olneyville Public Library (RI), to the Museum of Modern Art (NY), both of which happened in the same week. When not performing, Javelin is busy producing. Together they have amassed a vast catalogue of music, varying in its aesthetic range. Songs resemble the record collection from whence they spring, if not literally as when sampling, then figuratively as when past forms are cited and recontextualized.

Sounds range from broken dance jams to relaxed instrumental cut-ups, created with love on their MPCs. Long forgotten samples are chopped and re-assembled with drums, wooden recorders, old keyboards, handmade thumb pianos or whatever instruments are readily at hand. The result is a kind of mix tape fantasy (residing in the mythical “dollar bins of the future”), where R&B impresarios, amateur booty bass producers and Andean flautists hold equal sway.
